Faster, high quality and more reliable internet is one step closer for Pacific communities, with the first cable landing station installed in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).  Between February to May, cable landing stations for the East Micronesia Cable project are expected to be installed in Tarawa in Kiribati, Nauru and the state of Kosrae. 

The civil works to land the East Micronesia Cable (EMC) in Kosrae state continue to make great progress. Supported by Australia, the US and Japan, the EMC will provide the first international submarine cable connection for Kosrae, providing faster, more reliable and higher quality telecommunications connectivity for the state.

The Nauru Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology and the Nauru Fibre Cable Corporation celebrated a significant milestone in delivery of Nauru’s first international submarine cable connection, with the official launch of project civil works.

The Kiribati Ministry of Information, Communication and Transport held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially launch the commencement of civil works associated with the landing of the East Micronesia Cable in Tarawa.

Representatives from AIFFP and Australia, Federated States of Micronesia, Japan, Kiribati, Nauru and the United States recently met to discuss momentum of the East Micronesia Cable project, which will deliver internet connectivity via submarine cable for the first time in Nauru, Tarawa in Kiribati and Kosrae in FSM.

The East Micronesia Cable (EMC) survey ship, RV Bold Explorer, recently made a port of call in Pohnpei before commencing its survey route for the EMC.

The EMC, funded by Australia, Japan and the United States, is an estimated AUD135 million (USD95m) project to deliver an undersea cable connecting Kosrae, Tarawa in Kiribati, and Nauru to the existing HANTRU-1 cable landing point located in Pohnpei.

More than 100,000 people across the Pacific will receive faster, more reliable, secure and higher quality internet connectivity through the East Micronesia Cable Project.

The Federated States of Micronesia Signs Joint Communique with the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of Kiribati on Implementing the East Micronesia Cable Project.

Australia, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Japan, Kiribati, Nauru and the United States of America have signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding for the East Micronesia Cable project.

The Commonwealth of Australia, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), has awarded the contract to provide Project Coordination Unit (PCU) services to the East Micronesia Cable Project (EMCP) to nem Australasia Pty Ltd (nem).

The East Micronesia Cable Project will connect Kosrae (FSM), Nauru and Tarawa (Kiribati) to the existing HANTRU-1 cable at Pohnpei (FSM) and provide faster, higher quality, and more reliable and secure internet connectivity to these countries.
