FSM installed cable landing station in preparation for submarine cable connections
Faster, high quality and more reliable internet is one step closer for Pacific communities, with the first cable landing station installed in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Between February to May, cable landing stations for the East Micronesia Cable project are expected to be installed in Tarawa in Kiribati, Nauru and the state of Kosrae.

The civil works to land the East Micronesia Cable (EMC) in Kosrae state continue to make great progress. Supported by Australia, the US and Japan, the EMC will provide the first international submarine cable connection for Kosrae, providing faster, more reliable and higher quality telecommunications connectivity for the state.
Nauru Submarine Cable Civil Works Groundbreaking Ceremony
The Nauru Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology and the Nauru Fibre Cable Corporation celebrated a significant milestone in delivery of Nauru’s first international submarine cable connection, with the official launch of project civil works.

East Micronesia Cable Survey Ship makes port of call
The East Micronesia Cable (EMC) survey ship, RV Bold Explorer, recently made a port of call in Pohnpei before commencing its survey route for the EMC.

On June 5, 2023, an Exchange of Notes was concluded in Tarawa, the capital of the Republic of Kiribati, between Mr. IKEDA Hirotsugu, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Kiribati, and Hon. Tekeeua Tarati, Minister for Information, Communication and Transport to the Republic of Kiribati, for a grant aid of 2.40 billion yen to be funded under Japan’s "Economic and Social Development Programme,".
