Press Release: Landmark agreement advances East Micronesia Cable investment

Published by AIFFP

Australia, the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Japan, Kiribati, Nauru and the United States of America have signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding for the East Micronesia Cable project.

The East Micronesia Cable is an ambitious project to deliver secure, transparent and reliable telecommunications infrastructure to connect Kosrae (FSM), Nauru, and Tarawa (Kiribati) with the existing HANTRU-1 cable at Pohnpei (FSM).

The Memorandum of Understanding confirms Australia, Japan and the United States are collaborating to facilitate effective funding arrangements for this transformational infrastructure project.

Marking another milestone for the project, the inaugural Project Executive Board meeting was held on 26 July, at which senior officials from each of the six partner countries met collectively for the first time.
